When the holiday season approaches and cool mornings have you reaching for a sweater, then you may be feeling the urge to pull out your recipe book, mixing bowls, and measuring cups. The Baking season is upon us, so why not try this delicious and simple recipe for Gingerbread Waffles. Your house will smell divine and your family will thank you. This recipe is faster and easier to make than other recipes. Moreover, you’ll be trying a fun variation on breakfast staple.
Gingerbread Waffles Ingredients:
1 cup of real butter
1 cup of granulated sugar
2 large eggs
3 cup molasses
2 cups flour
1 1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. finely ground ginger
1 tsp. finely ground cinnamon
1 tsp. ground cloves
1 cup of boiling water
Directions
The first step is to heat and spray your waffle maker according to the directions of the appliance manufacturer. Next, cream the butter and granulated sugar until the mixture is light and airy. Then add the 2 eggs along with the molasses, and beat the ingredients together until they are smooth. In a separate bowl sift the dry ingredients together, which include the flour, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon and cloves. You should add the remaining ingredients into the butter mixture by alternating the combined dry ingredients with the boiling water.
Spoon the batter into the waffle maker and allow it to spread. Check your waffle manual for an exact time, although each waffle should take about 3 to 4 minutes. The batter will steam at first and when it stops, the waffle should be ready for you to plate. You can expect the batter to produce approximately 12 waffles that are 4 inches in size, or if you have a Belgium waffle maker, the batter will make 3 big fluffy Belgium waffles. You can double the recipe if your family is large. Also, the waffles are mouthwatering when served with maple syrup, apple butter or cinnamon syrup.
You can make homemade cinnamon syrup with a few ingredients that are probably already in your spice cabinet.
Cinnamon Syrup Ingredients
1 cup white sugar
1 cup compacted brown sugar
2 tablespoons flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 cup water
Directions
Combine the powder sugar, cinnamon and flour in a saucepan. Next, add vanilla and water. Heat the ingredients to a rolling boil, stirring frequently. Continue to heat the mixture while stirring and the combination will begin to thicken into syrup. After the mixture thickens, remove from the heat and allow it to cool for approximately 10 minutes.
For a variation, you could coat your gingerbread waffles with a cream cheese icing, creating a unique breakfast dessert.
